Cipherscale Service and App Data Collection

The cipherscale app creates VPN tunnels to cipherscale gateways owned and deployed by the customer in their environment. Cipherscale does not have ownership or administrative control over these servers, and each server's data policy depends on the server's owner. The cipherscale gateway may collect and retain logs of the traffic flows exiting the VPN tunnel. The cipherscale service provides a web interface to view the logs collected on gateways but does not import or store them. We are not responsible and have no control over servers run by companies or entities other than cipherscale.

The cipherscale service is for business use and collects various logs (for example, authentication events and DNS lookup events). The logs are stored in our systems for up to 90 days. The customer can export and store these logs, at which point the customer controls the data and the data retention policy.

The cipherscale app communicates with the cipherscale service and sends the information needed to troubleshoot, authenticate, identify, and enforce zero-trust policies. This information consists of:

  • IP address
  • Operating system and its version
  • Name, email, and user id
  • Location (approx location)
  • Crash log. Whenever the application crashes, a copy of the crash log is sent to cipherscale. This log is used only for debugging purposes and is never shared with Third Parties.
  • Device ID

The app maintains a log of certain operations on the local device. Sometimes, our support personnel may ask you to use the "Share Log" feature to transmit a copy of the log for analysis and troubleshooting. The "Share Log" feature will copy the log to your email app, text editor app, or any other app you choose - you should examine the log before sending it to cipherscale and edit out any personal or sensitive information you do not wish us to access. Sending the log requires explicit action on your part, and any information you send us through this method may be retained in our support ticketing system for future reference unless you explicitly request to delete this information.

Website Tracking (cipherscale.com)

Cipherscale also collects anonymous information about how visitors use our website; for example, cipherscale utilizes web analytics software to track, in the aggregate, the number of unique views received by the pages of the website, the domains from which users originate along with many other analytical data points. Through web analytics software, the cipherscale websites may use "cookies" to track how users engage our website.

Third-Party Payment Processors

You may be asked for payment information if you sign up for a trial or purchase a subscription. We use third-party services (e.g., payment processors) for payment processing. The payment processor will collect that information if you use a credit card. We do not collect or store your credit card number.

Cipherscale takes reasonable steps to allow you to correct, amend, delete, or limit the use of your Personal Data. You can update your Personal Data directly within your account settings section whenever possible. If you cannot change your Personal Data, please contact us, and we will make the requested changes. If you wish to be removed from our systems, please contact us at [email protected]
